Terms of Use
Effective Date: September 15, 2026 Last Updated: September 15, 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the Chaffey AVID Opportunity Directory and any pages, features, information, or services made available through it (collectively, the “Directory,” “Website,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
By accessing or using the Website, you acknowledge these Terms. If you do not agree with them, do not use the Website.
1. About the Directory
The Chaffey AVID Opportunity Directory is an independently maintained student resource designed to help students discover scholarships, internships, fellowships, competitions, volunteer programs, academic programs, leadership opportunities, and similar resources.
The Directory provides information only.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, we do not:
- operate, administer, sponsor, or fund listed opportunities;
- accept or process applications on behalf of opportunity providers;
- select applicants or determine eligibility;
- award scholarships, prizes, employment, admission, credit, or other benefits;
- collect application fees on behalf of listed providers;
- employ or supervise participants;
- arrange transportation, housing, travel, or insurance;
- conduct background checks on opportunity providers;
- guarantee the legitimacy, safety, availability, quality, or suitability of an opportunity; or
- guarantee any application or participation outcome.
Listing an opportunity does not create an agency, partnership, joint venture, employment, fiduciary, advisory, or other legal relationship between us and the opportunity provider or between us and a user.
2. Independent Status and No Affiliation
The Directory is independently maintained and is not an official website or publication of Chaffey Joint Union High School District, Chaffey High School, AVID Center, or any third-party organization identified on the Website, unless a specific relationship is expressly stated.
References to schools, organizations, government agencies, businesses, foundations, universities, scholarship programs, or other entities are made for informational and identification purposes.
The use of a third party's name, program name, trademark, logo, or link does not by itself mean that the third party sponsors, endorses, approves, verifies, or is affiliated with the Directory.
All third-party trademarks and other intellectual property remain the property of their respective owners.
3. Editorial Selection of Opportunities
Listings are selected, summarized, organized, and published by the Website's authorized editors.
Visitors do not have the ability to directly publish listings on the Directory.
We may, but are not required to, research an opportunity before publication. Any review or screening we perform is editorial in nature and should not be interpreted as:
- a background check;
- a safety inspection;
- legal or regulatory verification;
- financial due diligence;
- accreditation;
- certification;
- verification of every statement made by a provider; or
- a guarantee that an organization or opportunity is legitimate.
We may add, edit, correct, update, refuse, suspend, archive, or remove any listing at any time and for any reason.
The fact that we choose not to remove a listing does not mean that we have independently verified it.
4. Information May Change
Opportunity information can change rapidly.
Deadlines, eligibility requirements, award amounts, participation dates, locations, application procedures, costs, age restrictions, citizenship requirements, program conditions, and other information may be modified by the provider without notice to us.
Although we may attempt to keep listings accurate, we do not warrant or guarantee that information on the Website is complete, current, error-free, or available.
A deadline displayed on the Website may also be affected by time zones, provider extensions, early closures, technical problems, or changes that have not yet been reflected in our listing.
The provider's official information controls whenever it conflicts with information published in the Directory.
5. Verify Before You Apply
Before applying, registering, paying a fee, submitting personal information, traveling, attending an event, accepting employment, or otherwise participating in an opportunity, you should independently verify the opportunity through the provider's official website or other official communication channel.
You are responsible for confirming, as applicable:
- the identity of the provider;
- application deadlines;
- eligibility requirements;
- costs and fees;
- scholarship or award amounts;
- program dates and locations;
- application requirements;
- age or parental-consent requirements;
- employment conditions;
- academic-credit arrangements;
- travel or housing arrangements;
- refund policies;
- privacy practices;
- safety requirements; and
- any other conditions relevant to your participation.
Users should exercise particular caution before providing Social Security numbers, government identification, financial information, banking information, payment card information, medical information, or other sensitive personal information.
6. Third-Party Providers
Opportunity providers are independent third parties.
They control their own programs, applications, eligibility decisions, communications, hiring decisions, admissions decisions, awards, payments, events, websites, privacy practices, security practices, cancellations, and participant relationships.
We do not control and are not responsible for the conduct, statements, decisions, acts, or omissions of independent providers.
Any disagreement, contract, payment, application, participation arrangement, employment relationship, or other interaction between you and a provider is between you and that provider.
Nothing published in the Directory should be interpreted as a promise that a provider will act in a particular manner.
7. No Endorsement
Publication of an opportunity means only that our editors determined that the opportunity may be useful or relevant to the Directory's audience.
Publication does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation, certification, approval, warranty, sponsorship, or guarantee of:
- the provider;
- its employees or representatives;
- its financial condition;
- its safety practices;
- the accuracy of its claims;
- the value of its program;
- its treatment of participants;
- its compliance with law; or
- its suitability for any particular student.
Likewise, removal of a listing does not necessarily mean that we have determined that the provider has engaged in misconduct.
8. Applications and Eligibility
We do not make eligibility determinations for third-party opportunities.
A listing's eligibility summary is intended only as a convenient overview. The provider's official eligibility rules control.
You are solely responsible for determining whether you qualify, completing your application correctly, submitting it on time, obtaining necessary signatures or recommendations, securing parental or school permission when required, and complying with the provider's rules.
We are not responsible for an application being rejected, lost, incomplete, late, disqualified, or otherwise unsuccessful.
9. No Guarantee of Outcomes
We make no guarantee that use of the Directory will result in:
- admission;
- acceptance;
- a scholarship;
- financial aid;
- a prize;
- employment;
- an internship;
- volunteer placement;
- academic credit;
- certification;
- recognition;
- travel;
- participation in a program; or
- any other result.
Past availability of an opportunity does not guarantee future availability.
10. Safety and Participation
We do not supervise participants in listed opportunities and generally have no control over the locations, individuals, activities, transportation, accommodations, communications, or conditions associated with those opportunities.
Some opportunities may involve in-person interaction, transportation, travel, physical activities, online communication with strangers, financial transactions, or disclosure of personal information.
Users and, where appropriate, their parents or guardians are responsible for evaluating whether participation is appropriate and for taking reasonable safety precautions.
If you are uncertain about the legitimacy or safety of an opportunity, do not participate until you have independently verified it.
11. Minors
The Directory is intended primarily as an informational resource for secondary-school students and others seeking educational and career opportunities.
Users under 18 should involve a parent, legal guardian, teacher, counselor, or other responsible adult when appropriate before entering contracts, paying fees, traveling, providing sensitive personal information, or participating in activities with third parties.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to restrict any legal right that a minor cannot validly waive under applicable law.
The Website is not directed to children under 13, and children under 13 should not submit personal information through the Website.
12. Third-Party Websites and Links
The Website may contain links to websites, forms, social-media accounts, application portals, documents, or services operated by third parties.
We provide those links for convenience.
We do not control third-party services and do not warrant their:
- availability;
- accuracy;
- security;
- accessibility;
- privacy practices;
- content;
- products;
- services; or
- continued operation.
A link appearing in the Directory does not constitute an endorsement.
You access third-party services at your own discretion and subject to the third party's own terms and policies.
13. Suspected Scams, Errors, and Corrections
Users are encouraged to report listings that appear fraudulent, unsafe, expired, inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise problematic.
Reports may be submitted to:
esteban.alvarez.ie.ca@gmail.com
Receipt of a report does not create a duty or guarantee that we will investigate, respond, modify a listing, or remove it.
We reserve the right to investigate or take editorial action at our discretion.
14. No Professional Advice
Content on the Directory is provided for general informational purposes.
Nothing on the Website constitutes legal, financial, tax, educational, admissions, employment, investment, counseling, or other professional advice.
You should obtain appropriate professional advice when your circumstances require it.
15. Acceptable Use
You may use the Website only for lawful purposes.
You may not intentionally:
- interfere with the Website's operation or security;
- attempt unauthorized access to systems or data;
- introduce malicious software or code;
- use automated systems in a manner that materially disrupts the Website;
- impersonate another person or organization;
- falsely represent an affiliation with the Directory;
- use the Website to commit fraud or other unlawful activity;
- reproduce substantial portions of the Directory in violation of applicable intellectual-property law; or
- use the Website in a manner that infringes the rights of another person.
We may restrict access when reasonably necessary to protect the Website, its users, or third parties.
16. Intellectual Property
Except for third-party materials, trademarks, and information identified as belonging to others, the original design, organization, written summaries, graphics, branding, and other original content of the Directory are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
You may use ordinary Website content for personal and noncommercial informational purposes.
No provision of these Terms transfers ownership of our intellectual property to you.
Program names, organization names, logos, photographs, trademarks, and other third-party materials remain the property of their respective owners.
17. Website Availability
We may modify, suspend, discontinue, reorganize, or remove any portion of the Website at any time.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access.
The Website may become unavailable because of maintenance, hosting failures, software errors, cybersecurity incidents, internet outages, service-provider failures, or circumstances outside our control.
We are not required to preserve or maintain any listing indefinitely.
18. Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE WEBSITE AND ITS CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties concerning accuracy, completeness, currency, availability, reliability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, security, and suitability.
We do not warrant that:
- every listing is legitimate;
- every provider is trustworthy;
- every deadline is current;
- every opportunity remains available;
- every link will work;
- the Website will be uninterrupted or error-free; or
- use of the Directory will produce any particular outcome.
Nothing in this section excludes a warranty or obligation that cannot lawfully be excluded.
19. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE DIRECTORY AND THE PERSONS INVOLVED IN OPERATING OR MAINTAINING IT WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE WEBSITE OR YOUR DEALINGS WITH AN INDEPENDENT THIRD PARTY.
This includes, to the fullest extent permitted by law, losses arising from:
- inaccurate or outdated listing information;
- missed deadlines;
- unsuccessful applications;
- provider cancellations;
- changes in eligibility;
- broken or incorrect external links;
- third-party communications;
- fees paid to third parties;
- employment or volunteer disputes;
- travel or participation decisions;
- loss of opportunities;
- third-party data practices; or
- the independent acts or omissions of an opportunity provider.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, if we are found liable for a claim arising solely from operation of the Website, our aggregate liability will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid directly to us for use of the Website during the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim or $50.
These limitations apply only to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability where applicable law prohibits such exclusion.
20. Third-Party Disputes
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we are not responsible for disputes between users and independent opportunity providers.
Claims concerning an application, award, employment arrangement, payment, program activity, provider representation, or other third-party transaction should ordinarily be directed to the relevant provider.
Nothing in this section releases us from responsibility for our own conduct where applicable law imposes responsibility.
21. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by applicable law and to the extent you are legally capable of entering into this obligation, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the persons responsible for operating the Directory from third-party claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from your unlawful misuse of the Website, your intentional violation of these Terms, or your infringement of another person's rights.
This provision does not require indemnification where applicable law prohibits it.
22. Privacy
Use of personal information collected through the Website is governed by our Privacy Policy.
The Privacy Policy should be reviewed separately from these Terms.
Third-party websites linked through the Directory maintain their own privacy practices. We are not responsible for how an independent provider collects, uses, stores, sells, shares, or protects information you submit directly to that provider.
23. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Website, our practices, or applicable law.
The current version will be posted on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date.
Where required by applicable law, additional notice will be provided.
Continued use of the Website after revised Terms become effective constitutes acceptance only to the extent permitted by applicable law.
24. Governing Law
To the extent permitted by applicable law, these Terms and disputes concerning operation of the Website are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Subject to applicable law and any jurisdictional requirements, proceedings concerning the Website may be brought in courts with appropriate jurisdiction in San Bernardino County, California.
Nothing in this section deprives a consumer of protections that cannot legally be waived.
25. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is determined to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable, that provision will be interpreted or limited to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable where permitted, and the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
26. No Waiver
Failure to enforce a provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other provision.
27. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any other policies expressly incorporated by reference, constitute the agreement concerning use of the Website to the extent enforceable under applicable law.
They do not modify any separate agreement between a user and an independent opportunity provider.
