The Inland Empire Witness accepts original writing and artwork from student creators about the Inland Empire. Students can submit essays, journalism, poetry, interviews, historical research, photography, digital art, illustration, graphic design, and other creative work responding to regional prompts. Selected submissions may be published and archived by The Inland Empire Witness.
The QuestBridge National College Match is a free college admission and scholarship program connecting academically strong high school seniors from low-income backgrounds with 55 highly selective colleges and universities. Students selected through the Match may receive a full four-year scholarship covering tuition, housing, food, and other expenses without student loans or a parental contribution. The scholarships are valued at more than $360,000. Applicants complete the National College Match application and may later rank up to 15 QuestBridge college partners. Finalists who rank colleges must submit additional materials to their selected institutions, and most Match offers are binding.
The NCWIT Aspirations in Computing High School Award recognizes students in grades 9–12 for their computing and technology interests, achievements, leadership, and aspirations. Applicants are considered for both National and Regional Affiliate Awards and become part of the Aspirations in Computing community. Students may optionally submit an educator endorsement to provide additional context about their accomplishments.
Amnesty International USA’s Freedom Pages Art and Literature Competition invites young people to create an original literary or visual-art piece about freedom of expression, censorship, and human rights. Students may submit work such as a poem, short story, essay, script, drawing, painting, collage, graphic design, mixed media, or digital art. Entries should connect freedom of expression with other human rights and reflect Amnesty International’s 2026 Banned Books Week campaign. One submission is allowed per applicant. First, second, and third place winners are selected in two age categories, with prizes of $300, $200, and $100 gift cards. AI-generated writing and pre-made design templates are prohibited.
The Morgan Stanley Finance Academy is a virtual program focused on building financial knowledge through educational sessions, mentorship, and professional connections. Applicants must submit an essay response, resume, and short video. Students must be high school seniors, have at least a 3.4 unweighted GPA, reside in the United States, and demonstrate an interest in business, finance, or economics.
The Central Asia Economics Prize is a free economics essay competition for students ages 14–19 worldwide. Participants choose one of four official questions and submit an individual English-language essay of no more than 1,200 words. Essays must directly address the economic context of Central Asia and use research, statistics, and credible sources.
The Hult Future Leaders Challenge is an 11-week global team competition where high school students work in teams of four to six to solve a real business challenge created by LEGO®. Teams develop an initial proposal while participating in business masterclasses and skills training. Selected teams advance to regional presentations and may continue to the Live Global Finals, where they pitch their ideas to judges. The program focuses on entrepreneurship, teamwork, innovation, and real-world problem solving.
Generation Human Rights is seeking a remote student intern to provide programmatic and research support for ongoing and potential future initiatives. The intern may assist with human-rights curriculum research, community human-rights projects, outreach for the Imagine: NextGen Voices Reflect on Peace curriculum, multimedia project ideas, social media, note-taking, prospect research, and grant research. The internship requires a commitment of 3–5 hours per week and is unpaid. To apply, submit a brief cover letter, resume, and brief writing sample. The California Department of Education’s Child Nutrition Advisory Council allows students to advise on school meals, nutrition programs, and other issues related to child nutrition in California. The selected student member serves on the council during the 2026–27 school year and participates in remote meetings.
The Niche $40,000 No Essay Scholarship awards one student $40,000 that may be used toward college expenses such as tuition, housing, books, and other education costs. No essay is required and only one entry is allowed per person. The recipient is selected through a random drawing and notified through Niche's scholarship fulfillment partner.
The U.S. Bank Student Scholarship Sweepstakes allows students to earn entries for scholarship drawings by completing personal-finance learning modules through the Zogo app. Students completing at least 25 modules may become eligible for a $2,500 award, while higher module levels can qualify students for awards of $5,000, $10,000, or the $20,000 grand prize. A mail-in entry option is also available without completing the learning modules. Applicants must be at least 17 years old and legal residents of the 50 United States or Washington, D.C. They must be accepted or enrolled as an undergraduate by September 1, 2027, at an eligible accredited U.S. two-year or four-year college, university, trade school, or vocational school.
The SCREAM TEENS Fall Literature Contest accepts one original horror story of no more than one page. The entry must be typed, single-sided, double-spaced, on plain 8.5" × 11" paper in 12-point Times New Roman. Illustrations will not be considered, and handwritten entries will not be judged. Submit the digital story and completed submission form by email to ECordts@OntarioCA.gov.
The Shout It Out Scholarship awards $1,500. Applicants submit a response of 250 words or fewer answering: “If you could say one thing to the entire world at once, what would it be and why?” Applicants must be legal U.S. residents and at least 14 years old.
The Blue Ocean Student Entrepreneur Competition is a virtual entrepreneurship competition for students ages 14–18. Students complete the Blue Ocean Mini-Course, develop a business idea addressing a real-world problem, and create an original five-minute pitch video. Students may participate individually or in teams of up to five.
The United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) selects two California students to attend Washington Week in Washington, D.C., from March 6–13, 2027, and receive a $12,500 college scholarship. Applicants must be high school juniors or seniors, be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, live and attend school in California for the entire 2026–27 school year, and be nominated by their high school principal. Students must also serve for the entire school year in a qualifying elected or appointed leadership position representing a constituency in student government, civic, educational, public affairs, or community-service organizations. The application includes required forms, transcripts, two recommendation letters, an application and exam, and a video presentation. Finalists participate in Zoom interviews, and selected delegates must attend the full Washington Week program.
The Born This Way Foundation Youth Advisory Board is a two-year youth leadership program focused on mental health, kindness, and community-building. Members advise the foundation on programs, campaigns, and youth-focused initiatives and participate in virtual meetings and projects.
The Home Depot Foundation Path to Pro Scholarship provides $2,500 scholarships for students pursuing education and training in skilled trades. Eligible fields include carpentry, electrical work, HVAC, plumbing, and construction management. Applications are accepted throughout the year and reviewed on a quarterly basis. The Home Depot Foundation also supports a separate Southern California Path to Pro scholarship opportunity for students pursuing skilled-trades training within approximately 60 miles of Los Angeles. That program accepts applications year-round and reviews them on a rolling basis.
The Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship awards 500 four-year college scholarships to graduating high school seniors based on academics, leadership, and financial need. Awards range from $1,000 to $7,500 per year and may be used toward a full-time four-year undergraduate degree at an accredited U.S. college or university. Applicants do not need to be related to an Elks member. Students must be current high school seniors and U.S. citizens at the time they submit their application; permanent resident status alone does not qualify.
The College JumpStart Pay It Forward Scholarship awards $1,000. Applicants write about a time when another person's kindness influenced their actions and explain what they learned from the experience. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and either current high school students in grades 10–12 or college students planning to attend college within the next 12 months. Selection is not based on financial need, grades, or test scores.
The California Environmental Youth Advisory Council is a CalEPA advisory body that allows young people to provide input on environmental issues. Members may research environmental regulations, provide youth perspectives, develop policy recommendations and legislative proposals, participate in meetings, and organize public-awareness initiatives. The inaugural cohort includes 10 members. Applicants must submit one recommendation letter from an advisor, teacher, volunteer supervisor, or peer.
The Congressional App Challenge is a coding competition where students create and submit an original app. Students can compete individually or in teams of up to four. Participants must be eligible to compete in a participating congressional district and submit their project through the official competition portal.
The NSA Stokes Educational Scholarship Program provides high school seniors with up to $30,000 per year for college tuition and mandatory fees, a year-round salary while attending college, paid summer work experience with the National Security Agency, and qualifying housing and travel support. Students must plan to major in an eligible STEM field or language analysis. Participants agree to work for NSA after graduation for at least 1.5 times the length of their supported college study. Applicants must apply through the NSA job board and submit a resume, transcript, two letters of recommendation, SAT/ACT scores, and an essay explaining why they want a career at NSA.
